The Kabah complex was dedicated to the Mayan rain god, Chaac. The ruins are located about 90-min from Progreso, the largest port on the Yucatan peninsula. Progresso is also a 15-min drive from the Chicxulub crater which was the site of the huge asteroid that caused the extinction of the dinosaurs 66-million yrs ago. On the cruise boat, we had a speaker who gave talks that covered the Mayan culture behind the ruins and the crater.
